Meeting Set For Fleet Facility
Neighbors in the Chief Garry Park area the latest proposed location for the city’s expanded fleet maintenance facility are meeting Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. to discuss the proposal.
The meeting will be held in the Stevens Elementary School, 1717 E. Sinto.
City staff will be available to provide information and answer questions.
The purpose of the meeting is to begin talking with the neighborhood about the possibility of the project, said Molly Myers, neighborhood services director.
“We are starting off with some thoughts and concepts about what works and what doesn’t work,” said Myers. “We are looking at partnering with the neighborhood right from square one.”
The service facility for the city’s trucks, cars, vans and snow plows was planned for the Logan neighborhood, between Perry and Hamilton streets, near Marietta Avenue and Foothills Road. Neighbors vigorously opposed the location. The city hasn’t abandoned that location, but is reconsidering it.
The community assembly of neighborhood councils recently researched and ranked eight alternative sites for the maintenance facility. The City Council soon after approved $50,000 in earnest money to hold the old Long Lake Lumber site on East Mallon, near Trent Avenue.
