Gift To Help Build Sports Complex

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Comstock Foundation has announced a grant of $150,000 to help build a soccer and baseball complex at Plante’s Ferry Park in the Spokane Valley.

The Comstock gift completes the estimated $1 million necessary to build the first phase of the complex.

The Spokane Valley Junior Soccer Association, which fields about 5,000 soccer players a year, has spearheaded the project. Spokane County and the state have given $500,000 to the complex.

The first phase of the project will include two baseball fields and five soccer fields, with amenities.

The second phase, which will include nine more soccer fields, is estimated to cost about $365,000, said Gib Brumback of the soccer association.

Grading at the 35-acre site starts today. An engineering unit of the Army Reserve has taken on stump removal and grading as a community project.
