Crews doing a good job

The road crews at work in the Valley are doing a wonderful job.

Granted, sometimes I’ve had to turn around and go another way.

And my fireplace doors have rattled a lot, even some kind of shake in the bathroom. But that’s what the big machinery does.

In spite of all this, I want to say to all the workers on the job, “Thank you!”

Good job for the benefit of all. June Spencer Spokane

Re-elect Boyle

We have had peace in the Liberty Lake Sewer District ever since Frank Boyle was elected commissioner.

We believe much of the peace is due to Frank’s ability to get the facts and do the right thing to provide balance for the community.

Frank has proven he can do the job.

Re-elect Frank Boyle on Nov. 4. Kerry Masters, Chris Bower Liberty Lake

Schweda supported

As a West Valley parent I encourage you to vote for continued success for our children by voting for Pete Schweda.

Many changes have taken place during his tenure on the school board and West Valley has been consistent in developing quality educational programs such as S.P.I.C.E (Student Parent Interactive Classroom Environment).

Students have new educational opportunities with the use of technology in school-to-career classes and Running Start. One of Pete’s personal goals was to increase community involvement and volunteers within these school programs.

He believes that the education of our children is best served with the integration of school, family, and community.

Parents and the community are proud of the offerings our children are presently receiving and know that the district will continue asking for our input for curriculum development, material selection committees, and parent/teacher conference scheduling.

Together we’ve seen test scores rise and an increase in student success in a variety of areas.

Mr. Schweda has been instrumental in these changes and he believes in community involvement. Please vote for Pete Schweda. Janeen Van Slyke Spokane

Disagreement clarified

First I would like to congratulate you on the excellent article regarding the Liberty Lake Sewer District commissioner race (Valley Voice, Oct. 23).

However, since my position regarding the district and Liberty Lake was quoted incorrectly by Frank Boyle, I feel that I must respond.

Yes, Mr. Boyle and I have “butted heads” repeatedly, but not on the issue of preserving the lake. Where we disagree is how we preserve the lake.

If I did not want to protect and preserve the lake, why would I have gone to the community and formed an “Outlet Committee” to resolve this problem? Mr. Boyle had every opportunity to do the same thing, but has done nothing except suggest we spend $400,000 of ratepayers’ money for a “quick fix” before we explore other sources of funds.

Present plans are to have a plan and funding so that we can start the project next spring.

There has never been any question on where I stand regarding the Growth Management Act. I think it is a bad law. It has split the district into two designations, urban and rural, which complicated the responsibilities and the responses available to the district. Eventually, this will effect the district’s services to the areas designated rural.

I do congratulate Mr. Boyle on quoting me accurately about people’s rights. I do believe very strongly that “people should be able to build on their land however they want,” within the zoning laws.

Lastly, I am not running for election. The candidates are John Mellick and Frank Boyle. Robert Gamble Commissioner, Liberty Lake Sewer District
