Safe Trick-Or-Treating Offered At Valley Malls, Churches

Nina Culver Correspondent

Many parents don’t think Halloween is as safe for little witches, vampires and ghosts as it used to be.

They’re reluctant to allow their children to venture too far from home on trick-or-treating jaunts.

Some don’t let their children go out at all, while others limit their kids’ quests for candy to just their immediate neighborhoods.

Other parents simply prefer to avoid the unpredictable October weather.

There are plenty of choices out there for Valley families seeking options to going door-to-door on Halloween night. Several Valley churches and the two major shopping malls will offer Halloween activities for candy-hungry kids.

Here’s a look at some Halloween activities planned around the Valley:

Children age 12 and under are invited to the Spokane Valley Mall for trick-or-treating from 4 to 7 p.m. The mall will have plenty of games and activity booths, as well as a fishing pond and prizes. All the stores in the mall will be handing out candy to kids in costumes.

Merchants will be passing out candy to trick-or-treaters from 4 to 6 p.m. at the University City Shopping Center.

Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye, is inviting children in preschool through the sixth grade to the church from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for games, a costume parade, crafts, and a fishing pond. The evening will also feature “trick-or-trunking,” during which children can go car-to-car in the church parking lot, where church members will be giving out candy from their car trunks.

Children in preschool through the sixth grade are invited to Opportunity Free Methodist Church, 1313 S. Pines, from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be door prizes, carnival games, and, of course, candy.
