Cuban Boxers Upset

Compiled From Wire Services

Two-time Olympic and five-time world champion Felix Savon of Cuba was beaten in the heavyweight final of the World Amateur Boxing Championships.

Savon, 30, seeking his sixth world title, was favored against Rushan Chagaev of Uzbekistan. But the 19-year-old Chagaev pounded out a 14-4 decision. The Cuban coaches protested the decision.

The other big surprise was registered by Hungarian middleweight champion Zsolt Erdei. He outpointed two-time Olympic and two-time world champion Ariel Hernandez of Cuba 8-2.
