Korda And Krajicek In Eurocard Finals
Petr Korda, reviving a career plagued by injuries, upset U.S. Open champion Patrick Rafter on Saturday to set up a clash with Richard Krajicek in the final of the Eurocard Open in Stuttgart, Germany.
Korda won 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). Krajicek beat Jonas Bjorkman 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Rafter, ranked No. 3 in the world, would have moved up to No. 2 had he won the tournament. The Australian was the highest-ranked player left in the $2.05 million event.
Top-seeded Amanda Coetzer struggled against Slovak qualifier Katarina Studenikova 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 before claiming a spot in the final of the Luxembourg Open against Barbara Paulus.
Austria’s Paulus defeated France’s Anne-Gaelle Sidot 6-3, 6-4.
