An Emmett, Idaho, man has been charged $1,000 in fines and penalties after being convicted of poaching a deer - a citation owing in part to his new pickup truck.

The Idaho Fish and Game Department investigators said after midnight on July 10, a citizen came upon a man field-dressing a deer on a county road. The poacher fled, but the citizen got a good look at his truck, described as a 1997 teal green pickup with chrome bumpers and no license plates.

A check of area Nissan dealerships found only one such truck had been sold in recent months and it was to Thomas “Fritz” Lindstrom.

In an appearance before Gem County Magistrate Gordon Petrie, Lindstrom admitted the charge but said he did it because he was low on money and needed the meat.

The judge, noting Lindstrom’s new pickup truck, said he had his priorities wrong. , DataTimes
