Harrick’s Infractions Deemed Minor

Los Angeles Daily News

Pacific-10 Conference and NCAA investigations determined Jim Harrick committed multiple NCAA rules violations during his tenure as UCLA basketball coach, according to a source close to the situation.

The violations - which include improper phone calls and misuse of tickets - are considered minor in scope and probably will not result in severe penalties, the source said.

Harrick was fired by UCLA last November for violating the NCAA’s extra-benefits rule and lying about it. Pac-10 and NCAA investigations are standard procedure when an infraction occurs.

“That UCLA fired Harrick before the Pac-10 got involved will clearly weigh in their favor,” the source said. “My guess is the (NCAA) will not consider this a big deal.”

UCLA is on NCAA probation for violations committed by the softball program. The Harrick infractions are not a breach of that probation.

Harrick is now head coach at Rhode Island.
