Kellogg Citizens Vote Today On School Funding Options

From Staff Reports

Kellogg residents vote today on a series of options to replace the city’s oldest elementary school.

Because remodeling the 1929 Sunnyside School would cost nearly as much as building a new school, the district hopes voters will choose one of three property tax options.

Designed to give voters the choice of how much to spend and what to build, the bond options range in cost from $3.8 million to $6.6 million.

The first and most expensive option would build a new elementary school behind the district-owned Kellogg Middle School site and significantly upgrade Kellogg High School.

The second option, for $4.4 million, would pay for remodeling Pinehurst Elementary School to house all students from Kellogg and Pinehurst, while the least expensive option would build a basic $3.8 million elementary school.

Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Canyon Elementary School, Pinehurst Elementary School and Smelterville City Hall. , DataTimes
