Chase Youth Appoints Chair

Jennifer Hayes Gonzaga Prep Graduate

For the first time, the Chase Youth Commission will be chaired by a - drumroll please - youth.

Deborah Polzin, a junior at Lewis and Clark High School, has been named chairwoman of the commission for 1997-98.

Polzin said the group’s main goal this year is to make plans for incorporating representatives from Spokane County on the commission.

Three new Spokane youth appointed to the Commission:

Anecia Grisby, a senior at Rogers High School, has served on the Spokane Teen Advisory Council. Her goals for the year are increasing teen involvement in and awareness of opportunities in the community.

Sudha Nandagopal, a junior at Mead High School, hopes to expose youth to more culturally diverse activities. She also hopes to generate more recognition for youth achievements. Nandagopal has been actively promoting cultural awareness in the community.

John Dean, the youngest new member on the commission and an eighth-grader at Chase Middle School, hopes to promote teen involvement in arts and science. He is active in the school’s multicultural club and is a graduate of the Spokane Police Department’s L.E.A.D. Academy.
