We’re Not All June Cleavers Letter Of The Week: From Aug. 22, 1997
I just received my enrollment registration letter from Coeur d’Alene High School. It provides lots of information on the coming school year, including the date and times that students not only pick up their schedules but have school pictures taken, locker assignments given and are issued their student ID cards. Unfortunately for working parents, these dates and times all fall within most people’s work week and work hours.
The letter says students will not be admitted to classes on the first day of school without their schedules and no schedules will be distributed on the first day!
I called to ask if concessions would be made for working people who cannot bring their students to the school for the essential things. There are no plans for this.
I work and pay taxes that help the schools and am certain I’m not the only one who finds this procedure unacceptable. Since I am the sole support for our family, I can’t take off work. My son does not have transportation to the school, and I have no idea how he is to have the necessary forms in hand to start school since they have no plans to accommodate working families.
Come on, Coeur d’Alene School District, join the ‘90s and realize that most parents do have to work, that not all of us can afford time off or cars for our young people so we can all fit into your schedules. Kathie E. Fiessinger Coeur d’Alene
