Blosser Swinging Hot Bat, But Indians Need More Yakima Pitchers Stifle Others In 5-2 Victory Over Spokane

Doug Blosser is going to hate to see the Northwest League baseball season end.

It was his bat that accounted for all the Spokane runs Monday night as the Indians dropped a 5-2 decision to Yakima in the opener of a season-ending three-game series as the Bears snapped a four-game skid with just their second win in 11 games.

It was Yakima’s first win over Spokane at County Stadium.

Blosser lifted a sacrifice fly to the warning track in center field in the sixth to bring home Rich Petru, who had opened the inning with a double and took third on an infield out.

In the ninth inning, Blosser slammed a 385-foot home run to left-center for his third homer in the last four games. It was his 12th of the season, tying Dermal Brown for the team lead. Blosser has 49 RBIs.

Yakima pitchers Jared Moon, who allowed four hits and one run in six innings in collecting a record-evening second win, and reliever Bill Everly, who retired nine of the 10 Indians he faced in earning his third save, otherwise tamed the Indians.

Four Spokane errors aided the Bears, who got a run-scoring double from Cash Riley in the first and an RBI triple by Wynter Phoenix and steal of home by Jamie Goudie to highlight a three-run fourth.
