Head Wins Top Fuel

Jim Head won the Top Fuel final in the U.S. Nationals, beating Cory McClenathan with a quartermile run of 4.738 seconds at a top speed of 300.00 mph.

Head of Columbus, Ohio, was a close friend of Top Fuel driver Blaine Johnson and motorcycle rider Elmer Trett, who were killed in accidents last year in the event.

Whit Bazemore won the Funny Car competition, Kurt Johnson took the Pro Stock title, and John Myers won the Pro Stock Motorcycle division.
