Men’s Singles, Fourth Round: No. 15 Petr Korda beat No. 1 Pete Sampras 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 7-6 (7-3); Greg Rusedski beat Daniel Vacek 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, 6-2; Jonas Bjorkman beat Scott Draper 6-3, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (8-6).

Women’s Singles, Fourth Round: No. 1 Martina Hingis beat Florencia Labat 6-0, 6-2; No. 3 Jana Novotna beat No. 12 Mary Joe Fernandez 7-5, 6-4; No. 6 Lindsay Davenport beat Magui Serna 6-0, 6-3; No. 10 Sanchez Vicario beat Rachel McQuillan 6-1, 6-2.

Friend or foe?: In the women’s quarterfinals, top-seeded Martina Hingis will face her doubles partner, 10th-seeded Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, and third-seeded Jana Novotna will play her partner, sixth-seeded Lindsay Davenport.

Stat of the Day: Petr Korda’s fourth-round upset snapped Pete Sampras’ U.S. Open match winning streak at 17.
