U.S. Bank To Close Four Local Branches

From Staff And Wire Reports

Four U.S. Bank branches in the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene area will be closed early next year in the wake of the recent merger of U.S. Bancorp and First Bank System, which assumed the U.S. Bancorp name.

Announcements made Monday cover 20 of the 299 branches in Washington and Idaho, with closures evenly divided between the two states.

The only Eastern Washington branch affected is at Third and Stevens in Spokane. Accounts there will be sent to the bank’s central Spokane branch at 428 W. Main.

In North Idaho, the Bonner Mall branch will be consolidated into the location at 201 Main in Sandpoint.

In Coeur d’Alene, the accounts at 1106 Sherman Avene will be moved to the branch at 302 Sherman. And the branch in the Rosauers at 225 W. Appleway will be combined with the one in the Albertson’s at 197 W. Prairie in Hayden Lake.

A bank statement said the branches were selected on the basis of proximity to other locations, growth potential and types of services used by customers.

U.S. Bank of Washington President Phyllis Campbell said the consolidations are the latest in a series of adjustments to the bank’s branch system that have included openings as well as closures.

Spokeswoman Cindy Duryee said employees in the affected branches would be reassigned.
