Impact Fee Will Benefit Roads
The Spokane City Council earlier this week approved an agreement with developer Leif Sorenson that sets aside a pot of money for road improvements in Indian Trail.
Under the voluntary impact fee agreement, Sorenson will pay the city $721 for every lot he develops in McCarroll East.
Plans for the subdivision call for a total of 257 homes and 30 duplexes on 110 acres east of Indian Trail Road, between Strong Road and Shawnee. The first phase, which consists of 15 single-family homes, will start behind existing homes on Farmdale.
Phil Williams, the city’s director of planning and engineering services, said the voluntary impact fees will help pay for improvements to roads near the development.
The fees are based on the total number of homes expected in Indian Trail and the anticipated traffic effects. “It’s kind of a mathematical deal,” Williams said.
Also Monday, the council approved a contract with Shamrock Paving, Inc., of Spokane to pave and add curbs and sidewalks to Helena Street from Empire to Garland avenues.
