Manito Methodist To Honor 30-Year Organist Edwin Haugan
For 30 years, Edwin Haugan has played the organ at Manito United Methodist Church, weathering several different pastors and changing times and musical tastes.
Haugan will be honored for his years of service on Sunday during a special worship service at 10 a.m.
Haugan has lived in the area all his life and is also a professor at Spokane Falls Community College.
Pastor John Shaffer describes him as a quiet man who always has been there when needed and as a talented person.
“He can play anything” Schaffer says
“He’s been a very warm, flexible, and accommodating person,” the pastor says.
While pastors have come and gone, Haugan has been a fixture at the organ, and all of the pastors appreciated his talent, says Shaffer.
“All of them have appreciated his spirit,” he said. “The fact that he is able to adjust to new pastors is a nice trait.”
Haugan will perform an organ recital during Sunday’s worship service. He will also be presented with a plaque, a gift, and letters of appreciation from pastors he worked with in the past.
A reception will follow at 11 a.m.
Manito United Methodist is located at 3220 S. Grand Blvd.
