Quake Rattles Nerves, Not Much Else At Slight 3.3 Magnitude, It Causes No Damage In Entiat

Associated Press

A small earthquake delivered “a very quick jolt” to this Eastern Washington town this morning but did no apparent damage.

The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 3.3, was centered about 3-1/2 miles north-northwest of Entiat, according to Bill Steele, a University of Washington seismologist in Seattle.

Steele said the quake occurred at 10:17 a.m. Entiat is about 15 miles north of Wenatchee.

“Just a very quick jolt is what we received here,” said Entiat school Superintendent Jeff Davis.

The town’s school building was immediately checked for damage, but none was found, so classes for 400 students are continuing, Davis said.

“We’re keeping everyone informed,” Davis said.

Others described the quake as more of a loud rumble than a shaking movement.

“It was kind of like a loud boom,” said Chris Hansen, who works at Entiat City Hall. “Like sonic booms.

“We all just sat there with our mouths open,” she said. The city hall building was not damaged, she said.
