S. Africa Apologizes
Backers of Cape Town’s bid for the 2004 Olympics apologized to the IOC for offering the wives of African IOC members free flights to Switzerland, saying they did not realize they were not in compliance with the rules.
The IOC will select the host city for the 2004 games Friday. Other candidates are Athens; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Rome; and Stockholm.
A Paris laboratory could lose its Olympic accreditation for failing to report that a Tour de France cyclist had failed six drug tests, the IOC’s top anti-doping official said.
