Joyner-Kersee Will End Career With A Farewell Tour In 1998
Jackie Joyner-Kersee, the greatest woman athlete of her time - and perhaps all time - will end her career next year with a farewell tour that will conclude in the United States with the Goodwill Games.
“It’s sad,” Joyner-Kersee said Thursday. “I’m trying not to put a lot of thought into it now, because the end is coming. … But I’m looking forward to not training any more because I always competed at the highest level. I gave a lot of my body and a lot of my time.”
Joyner-Kersee is the world record-holder in the heptathlon, as well as a three-time Olympic gold medalist and four-time world champion. She will compete in the multi-event competition at the Goodwill Games in July.
