Saturn Dropping Two Production Shifts

From Staff And Wire Reports

Saturn Corp. is dropping two production shifts because of slumping sales for its small car.

Beginning Friday, the company will eliminate its day shifts on Monday and Friday, said spokesman Greg Martin. That will leave 10 shifts per week.

Saturn sold 153,713 cars through July 31, down 6.8 percent from a year ago.

Martin said consumers currently are spending money on computers and other things rather than cars.
