Outdoor recreation

Outdoor skill training for guides, trip leaders and anyone who wants to feel more confident in the outdoors are being sponsored by the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department this fall.

Among the notable courses are:

Basic canoeing instruction, Sept. 20-21, $89.

Canoe instructor training, Oct. 9-12, $249.

Wilderness advanced first aid, Oct. 10-12, $194.

Backcountry snow avalanche safety, Dec. 5-6, $157.

Avalanche safety for snowmobilers, Jan. 9-10, $157.
