Three Killed In Attack On Restraurant
Armed raiders launched an assault on a popular restaurant on Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast, killing three people and injuring 10, a police official said Saturday.
About 100 armed raiders attacked the Sharon Bar and Restaurant on Friday, said police spokesman Peter Masemo. The open-air cafe is located near Shelly Beach, just south of Mombasa Island, about 275 miles southeast of Nairobi.
Although the restaurant is near a hotel complex popular among British tourists, Masemo said the dead and injured were all Kenyans.
Authorities linked the attack to an Aug. 13 assault on a Likoni police station, just up the coast. Six police officers were killed, and dozens of police rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition were stolen.
