Get A Hunch, Bet A Bunch

Here we are, four weeks into the meet, and astonishingly few patterns have developed. No trainer has won more than three races and, partially as a result, victories have been divided fairly equally among a dozen jockeys. Few horses have won two races. Some handicappers are not far behind.

As for track bias, we’re seeing many winners come from far back for the first time in several seasons, and middle closers, usually solid picks when speed duels seem likely, have won infrequently.

Tonight, the featured fourth race has contention to burn. All Fire stands out in the fifth after showing speed in a stakes.

Four seconds and six wins by second and third picks doomed Sunday’s wagers.

Here are today’s selections:

FIRST: $2 daily doubles pairing the top three picks in the first race with the three picks in the second ($18).

THIRD: $1 trifecta box of JUDYLYN, RONI TIME, GEE OH DEE and PROLIVER ($24).

FIFTH: $20 to win on ALL FIRE and $5 exactas pairing her with MOULTON and MISS SURFER ($10).

SEVENTH: $10 to win on ACHIPOMAC.

EIGHTH: $10 to win on CASH’N PRIZES and $1 trifectas wheeling him to every combination of MO MAGIC, ROMAN VILLA and SOUL KEEPER ($6).

Original bankroll: $2,000.

Sunday’s result: Lost $71.

Present bankroll: $1,864.70.
