Dead man walking in Frisco?
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that 774 people with names identical to deceased voters filled out ballots in the hotly contested 49ers’ stadium vote in June.
Germaine Wong, the city’s registrar of voters, said illegal votes are theoretically possible, the Chronicle reported.
“When you register to vote, you can do it by mail, and you don’t need to show any kind of identification,” Wong said.
Still, Wong remains skeptical that any investigation will turn up widespread ghost votes for the stadium, though she is not ready to rule out anything just yet.
The Chronicle reported that an analysis of 65,000 county deaths during the past decade turned up 744 names that appeared to have voted in the 49ers election. Of that number, 43 also had zip codes matching those of the people who voted.
The vote for a new stadium won.
If only Paul Allen had thought of that, he could have saved himself some money on the Seahawks stadium campaign.
Going to camp to be a Walter?
Tony Boselli, the former USC All-American offensive lineman and now a standout player for the Jacksonville Jaguars, is reticent about his accomplishments.
His wife, Angi, said that when they were dating she didn’t know he was a famous college football player.
While attending the Walter Camp All-American awards ceremonies, Tony told Angi only that he was at Walter Camp.
“I thought that was some sort of football camp where people went to try and get better and make the team,” she told Vito Stellino of the Baltimore Sun. “I had no idea it was some All-American honor.”
Beauty is in the eye of …
Pepper Rodgers, former UCLA football coach, has been hired to try to convince Memphis to support the Oilers even though the NFL team will play in the city for only two years while a stadium is being built in Nashville.
“I look at it this way,” Rodgers said. “If you put me on an island with Cindy Crawford for two years, that’s better than nothing.”
Is it really fair to compare Cindy with the Oilers?
A real bargain
Leave it to Lefty Driesell.
The colorful Georgia State basketball coach has done something for those fans “fed up” with big-time athletics.
Georgia State says that season ticket holders will be refunded money for any home games the Panthers don’t win.
“The average fan is fed-up with big-time athletes who don’t care if they win or lose,” Driesell said. “When fans buy tickets, they want to get their money’s worth. Well, now we’re all in this together. If we lose, they don’t pay. It’s that simple.”
No word on whether Lefty plans to give back his paycheck after each loss.
The last word …
“Bryan Cox will get fined for something. He will then sue over it. He will be named MVP (Most Valuable Plaintiff).”
