Wnba Players Want Share Of Profits
The Women’s National Basketball Association spent much of the time since its championship game a week ago talking about its successful inaugural season.
Among the highlights from the league’s press office this season: The WNBA’s average attendance was 9,663, more than twice the 4,000 that was expected, and the league’s games drew more than 50 million television viewers throughout the season.
Meanwhile, a top agent said some players are so upset about the league’s salary structure that they are threatening to jump to the rival American Basketball League, which completed its first season in March.
In its first season, the ABL had an average salary of $70,000 with a range of $40,000 to $125,000. The players also got a small percentage ownership of the league.
WNBA players received $10,000 to $50,000.
