Mom Faces Charge In Car Crash
A 24-year-old Spokane woman is facing a vehicular assault charge for crashing her car early Wednesday, leaving her daughter in critical condition.
About 3:30 a.m., the car Bonnie Spooner was driving rammed into the rear of a tractor-trailer rig that was slowing down on Interstate 90 in the Sprague Avenue exit lane, the Washington State Patrol said.
“There is evidence of alcohol use (by Spooner),” said Sgt. Chris Powell, WSP spokesman.
The collision totaled Spooner’s car and left her with an injured knee and facial fractures. Her 3-year-old daughter, Alexandra, suffered internal bleeding and injuries to her head and spine, the WSP said. Both wore seat belts.
They were taken by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center, where Spooner was in satisfactory condition Wednesday afternoon.
The driver of the semitruck, Debora Carpenter, 32, of Onalaska, Wis., was not injured.
Following the crash, the westbound lanes of I-90 were closed for several hours while troopers collected evidence, Powell said.
