Smith Tabbed To Start For Ducks
Oregon’s Akili Smith has apparently won the starting quarterback job for today’s game at Nevada.
Ducks coach Mike Bellotti said Smith will be the likely starter when Oregon (1-0) plays the Wolf Pack (1-1) in Reno, Nev.
Smith completed 4 of 9 passes for 28 yards and a touchdown in the Ducks’ season-opening win against Arizona. He also had one interception. Against the Wildcats, Bellotti rotated between Smith, a juniorcollege transfer, and junior Jason Maas, who was 6 of 11 for 52 yards. The QBs probably will trade off again, however, as Bellotti tries to jump-start his offense.
