More Seattle-Tacoma Buses Part Of 3-County Transit Push

Associated Press

Express bus service between Tacoma and Seattle will be increased starting Monday.

Beefed-up regional bus service is part of the 10-year, $3.9 billion bus-and-rail project approved by taxpayers in Pierce, King and Snohomish counties in November 1996.

Pierce Transit, with the help of money from the three-county Regional Transit Authority, is adding more bus service for weekday commuters and late-night service for people who want to attend events in Seattle.

For the new late-night service, the last bus will leave Seattle at 11:04 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays to accommodate riders who work late or want to go to concerts or sporting events in Seattle and take the bus home, Pierce Transit Director Don Monroe said.

That last bus headed north at night will leave Lakewood at 9:30 p.m.

In all, 15 departures will be added on weekdays - five of them northbound between 4:30 and 6:30 a.m. to ease crowding on the morning commute.

The regional transit plan will ultimately include commuter rail service between Lakewood and Everett and light-rail trains in downtown Tacoma and between Sea-Tac Airport and Seattle’s University District.
