Woman Buried Husband In Yard To Keep Collecting Social Security

Associated Press

A woman who admitted burying her husband in the backyard to continue collecting his Social Security payments was sentenced to probation Friday.

Anna M. Rogers, 63, of Des Moines, received $106,318 in Social Security benefits that she would not have received had she reported the death, authorities said. Her husband, Merle, died in 1986.

Judge Robert W. Pratt sentenced her to three years probation and ordered her to repay the benefits.

Rogers had pleaded guilty.
