Ballpark Workers Get In Out Of Rain
There was a rain delay Monday at the Seattle Mariners’ new ballpark, as about 70 carpenters walked off the job to protest the lack of a trailer or shack where they can eat lunch and keep their tools dry.
Ken Johnsen, director of the agency overseeing construction of the $417 million ballpark project, said the contractor was unprepared for rain that hit the Seattle area, but that the workers would be back on the job Tuesday.
The stadium project will not be delayed because of the walkout, he said.
The Mariners, who now play in the Kingdome, plan to move into the new 45,500-seat stadium in July 1999.
