Boeing Officials Lobby For Chinese Order
Boeing Co. officials are in Washington, D.C., this week to lobby administration officials about a potential 30-jet, billion-dollar order from China.
The order could be announced when Chinese President Jiang Zemin meets with President Clinton next month.
China, long a Boeing customer, has ordered just five Boeing jets in the past year, compared with 60 planes from Europe’s Airbus Industrie. Chinese leaders say the United States must stop interfering with China’s internal affairs or Boeing won’t get orders, even though many of China’s airlines want Boeing jets.
Tensions over copyright issues, military affairs and human rights have flared between the two nations in the last year and a half.
