Receipt Books Taken In Chamber Break-In
A weekend break-in at the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce may have compromised the credit card numbers of several members, President Rich Hadley said Tuesday.
The intrusion was discovered by a staff member shortly after noon Saturday, he said.
Desk drawers had been spilled onto the floor, a candy machine was broken into, and a cash box with a small amount of change was opened.
“We don’t keep a lot of cash out,” Hadley said. The thieves, he noted, also did not take any computers or other electronic gear.
But when staff returned Monday morning they realized that at least two receipt books were also taken during the burglary, he said.
Hadley said the books contained credit card numbers of members who used them to register for chamber functions.
Members with fax machines were immediately notified of the potential problem, he said, and everyone was mailed an advisory.
So far, Hadley said, there have been no reports of unauthorized use of any of the card numbers.
