Dollar Turns In Mixed Performance

The dollar was mixed against major currencies Wednesday, falling against the yen after an unexpected surge in Japan’s trade surplus revived fears of further U.S.-Japanese tension.

Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin later soothed worries that Washington might move to weaken the dollar.

The dollar fell to a low of 119.96 yen early overseas after Japan reported its overall merchandise trade surplus more than doubled last month, but recovered to trade at 121.00 yen in late New York trading.
