State Board Funds 43 Ewu Positions
Forty-three full-time faculty positions at Eastern Washington University will be fully funded this academic year, the Higher Education Coordinating Board voted Wednesday.
The board released $1.84 million in state funds withheld until the university boosts its student enrollment to earlier levels. Although enrollment has not improved, the board used an exemption to release the money for Eastern to meet faculty contracts that it had previously negotiated.
The 43 positions will be eliminated in 1998 as part of a reduction of 100 full-time positions that mirrors declining student enrollment.
Eastern on Oct. 13 will ask the board to release another $1.35 million to recruit students and bolster academic programs.
