Appeals Court Field Down To Four Finalists
Gov. Phil Batt will choose from two district judges, a deputy attorney general and a Boise lawyer to succeed Jesse Walters Jr. on the Idaho Court of Appeals.
The seven-member Idaho Judicial Council considered 12 applicants before submitting the names of four finalists to the governor this week to replace Walters, whom Batt appointed to the Idaho Supreme Court in June.
He stepped up to the five-member high court this month.
Batt’s office said the governor would select early next week from among 4th District Judge Alan Schwartzman of Boise, 3rd District Judge Stephen W. Drescher of Weiser, Deputy Attorney General Michael Gilmore and Boise attorney Warren E. Jones.
Walters, who was chief judge of the three-member Court of Appeals for 15 years, took the Supreme Court seat of Justice Charles McDevitt, who retired Sept. 1.
