Hail, Jerde Help Lift Viks

Elizabeth Hail’s goal at 69 minutes Thursday sealed Coeur d’Alene’s 2-1 North Idaho League girls soccer win over visiting Moscow.

Jaime Jerde scored early for the Vikings (6-2, 5-0), who entered the day tied for first place with Sandpoint.

Brenda Robinson of the Bears (3-2, 3-2) broke the shutout in the final seconds. Moscow remained in third place, although now tied with Lake City.

Also in the NIL, Anna Moseley scored the first and last goal, and added an assist as LC (4-2-1, 3-2-0) topped visiting Bonners Ferry 6-0.

The Timberwolves used eight players from their junior varsity. Goalkeeper Amanda Fessler of the Badgers (0-3), faced with a barrage of 46 shots, recorded 29 saves.

Volleyball

Lindsay Herbert and Kelley McCabe combined for 10 kills and 19 digs as Lake City (3-5) rolled to a 15-11, 15-8, 15-1 non-league win at Clarkston.

Clarkston led the first game 8-4 before LC rebounded. Laura Dodge added five kills, Kellie Stern five blocks and Jennifer Derr 21 assists for the Timberwolves, who scored the final 15 points of the match.

Danelle Gurgel had seven digs and served 7 for 7 for the Bantams.

In other non-leaguers, Krissi Ruiz finished with nine kills and six digs in Coeur d’Alene’s 16-14, 15-13, 1-15, 15-10 win at West Valley.

Katie Shirley added 12 kills and Melissa Martin seven digs for the Vikings (3-5), who have turned around a season that began 0-4. Rachelle Watson had 16 assists and Chantelle Frost 10 kills for the Eagles.

Cheney defeated visiting Lewiston 15-3, 15-8, 15-5. The Bengals dropped to 1-6.

Lakeland (6-2, 1-1) rallied in both games for a 15-9, 15-13 Intermountain League win at Kellogg (2-6, 0-3).

Becky Hardy had five kills, four digs and three aces for the Hawks, who trailed the first game 8-4 and the second 10-2. Melissa Adams added four digs and three aces, Anna Houchin five blocks and Cassie Beyer 10 assists for Lakeland.

Angela Flint’s 43 assists and four kills guided Lakeside to a 15-13, 11-15, 15-13 North Star League win at Mullan (4-2, 1-1).

Mary Kolar added seven kills for the Knights (5-4, 3-0) who broke a first-place tie with Falls Christian, which played a non-leaguer at Wallace.
