Compiled From Wire Services

Former NHL coach Mike Keenan has agreed to serve for free as a commentator for the St. Michael’s Majors, a Toronto junior team in the Ontario Hockey League, until he’s hired by an NHL team or a national sports network, said Majors president Dennis Mills.

Keenan is talking with ESPN and Fox Sports about becoming an NHL commentator this season.

The Washington Capitals suspended right wing Peter Bondra, who has refused to play in any more exhibition games until his contract, which has three years left, is renegotiated.

Montreal Canadiens general manager Rejean Houle has signed a three-year contract extension. Houle, 47, had one year remaining on his contract. In his two years as GM, the Canadiens haven’t made it past the first round of the playoffs.
