Garrett Says Robinson’s Job Still Safe
It’s the one question everyone wants to ask USC athletic director Mike Garrett, even if he says it’s too early to give an answer.
Barely two games into the season, and with USC off to an 0-2 start, there is already speculation mounting as to whether Garrett will fire head coach John Robinson.
“It’s much too early in the season to even comment on football,” Garrett said. “One win can change everything, much like it did with UCLA. I’m committed to John and I think John is committed to USC.”
Garrett said he will not be influenced by complaints from fans or alumni, angered over USC’s disappointing start.
“I get phone calls when the women’s soccer team loses. Anytime you lose at USC, no one likes it,” he said. “(But) when you win nine in a row, or two in a row, all this goes away.”
No kidding.
Notre Dame fell to 1-2 for first time since 1986 following 23-7 loss to Michigan State at home.
Fans’ reaction? They booed offense, booed QB Ron Powlus and many began to exit stadium with 10 minutes to play.
“We’re in the middle of a hurricane right now,” new coach Bob Davie said. “None of us wanted to be 1-2.”
