Foreman Bout Set

Compiled From Wire Services

Former heavyweight champion George Foreman, 48, is scheduled to fight Brooklyn, N.Y., boxer Shannon Briggs on Nov. 22, a spokeswoman for Foreman said.

Foreman, a career 76-4 fighter, who will turn 49 in October, became the oldest world champion in boxing history in 1994 when he knocked out Michael Moorer in the 10th round of what was billed as Foreman’s farewell fight.

Foreman was stripped of the title the following year because he wouldn’t fight designated challengers.

The Foreman-Briggs fight will be sandwiched between two more noteworthy matches.

Nov. 8, in Las Vegas, Evander Holyfield will fight Moorer for Holyfield’s World Boxing Association and Moorer’s International Boxing Federation titles. Dec. 6, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Oscar De La Hoya will defend his World Boxing Council welterweight title against Wilfredo Rivera.
