Second Fugitive From New Jail Apprehended In California

Associated Press

The second of two inmates who broke out of the new King County jail in Kent, Wash., on Sept. 9 was captured Monday night in California, a King County spokesman said.

Vanna Rann, 17, of Seattle, was arrested in Sacramento, said John Wilson, a spokesman for King County Executive Ron Sims.

Rann apparently was picked up about 9 p.m. Monday near a bus station in Sacramento, Wilson said. A Seattle area task force on fugitives had tracked a phone call Rann had made from Sacramento to someone in the Seattle area, and task force members then began checking out a Sacramento neighborhood.

Rann, who had cut his hair short and was armed with an ice pick, offered no resistance, Wilson said. Rann was identified by his tattoos and other information.

The other inmate, Kinnick Sanford, 28, was arrested Sept. 12 in Los Angeles.

The two had escaped from the Kent Regional Justice Center.
