Comments Drive Dollar Lower

The dollar dropped sharply against other major currencies Wednesday after an influential Japanese official said the market underestimated the Group of Seven countries’ warning against a weaker yen.

The dollar suffered its biggest slide in two weeks against both the yen and the mark, as it was also battered after Germany’s top central banker said the bank would try to keep the mark from falling further.
