Get A Hunch, Bet A Bunch

This meet has reached the point where it is clear which horses and stables are going in top form. Some of them will seek further success tonight.

Royal Lioness and Arctic Jazz, two mares who finish well, merit strong consideration in the fourth and ninth races, respectively. Both have been first or second in 40 percent of their starts and Artic Jazz may be regaining the form that placed her with better company in California.

Arctic Jazz’s trainer, Janet Logan, bears watching, too. Logan has five wins and several placings from just 19 starts. Likewise, perennial title contender Fred Hepton has started 20, but nine have been first or second.

The All West Colts and Geldings matches a lackluster field for a $18,275 purse. However, Big Bucket, with one start and super workouts, may be a runner.

Here are today’s selections:

FIRST: $10 to win on SON OF A SON and a $10 daily double pairing him with EXTREME EDGE.

FIFTH: $5 to win on MY PAPA and $1 trifectas wheeling him to PEPPERMINT PRINCE, GREY ALY and NO WAY TO TALK ($6). Split any winnings, win and place, on BIG BUCKET in seventh.

SIXTH: $10 to win on BANCHORY BLAZE.

SEVENTH: $10 to win on BIG BUCKET.

NINTH: $10 to win on ARCTIC JAZZ and $2 exactas with FOREIGN WORD, HEAR THE CALL and BEAUTIFUL BRANDY ($6).

Original bankroll: $2,000.

Saturday’s result: Lost $23.80.

Present bankroll: $1,536.40.
