Bullet Fired Into Sheridan Elementary

Amy Scribner Staff writer

School employees at Sheridan Elementary reported that shots were fired at the school March 25.

Someone drove by Sheridan, 3737 E. Fifth, about 8:30 p.m. and fired several shots, said Spokane police spokesman Dick Cottam.

At least one bullet broke a classroom window and hit a cabinet in the room, he said.

Police found the slug that entered the classroom along with several shell casings lying on Fourth Avenue. Employees in the building said they heard a series of shots that faded as the vehicle drove away.

Police are investigating. No other damage from the shots has been reported.

Burglar drops in on pharmacy

A burglar entering a South Side pharmacy apparently used the roof as a doorway.

Spokane police officers responded to an alarm at Jones Pharmacy, 906 S. Monroe, about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday. Boards had been pulled up on the roof to gain entry.

It appeared the burglar left through a door on the building’s north side, officers said.

An employee said he thought drugs were the only items taken.

Police are still investigating, Cottam said.

Thief breaks window for a buck

A burglar who broke into a South Side church this week made off with about a dollar.

Someone broke into Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th, sometime Sunday night or Monday morning, Cottam said. A rock had been thrown through a window on the northwest side of the building. The pastor said it appeared the only thing taken was a small cash box containing about a dollar’s worth of pennies.

The pastor said the same sort of break-in occurred earlier in the month.

Churches are common targets because they have only one or two people in the building during the week, Cottam said.
