Interchange Funding Not Certain
As state and county officials get started on road work around the Valley this summer, they are still awaiting word on whether full funding in finally in place for the new Interstate 90 interchange at Evergreen Road.
The $23.4 million project is in still need of $6 million from the state and about $6.9 million from developers who own property near the interchange.
If all funding is in place, construction would begin this year.
The Legislature approved the $6 million, but Gov. Gary Locke has not yet signed the supplemental transportation budget, which includes funding for the Evergreen interchange. Locke has until Saturday to sign the budget.
The budget also includes $250,000 to study urban connector routes around Spokane.
Among those connector routes is one that would link the Valley with the North Side via Bigelow Gulch Road.
