Robbery Suspect Arrested
A 24-year-old Valley man was arrested Sunday following a robbery at the Zip Trip convenience store at 10708 E. Sprague.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Vincent Telles, 210 S. Farr, at about 2 a.m. Sunday for second-degree robbery.
A Zip Trip employee called police to report that a white male in his mid 30s had grabbed a 6-pack of cold Bud Ice beer, placed it on the counter and told him “Give me the money and don’t mess around.”
The suspect was wearing a pair of white knit gloves, the worker told police. He didn’t show a weapon, but kept one hand in his pocket.
The nervous employee had problems opening the register, deputies said. When he got it open, he placed the entire drawer on the counter and the suspect grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and left.
Deputies and a canine unit tracked the suspect, finding dropped, unopened bottles of beer here and there, along with the pair of knit gloves.
A deputy found the suspect in a field near University City Shopping Center. He chased the suspect, catching him after he stumbled over a cable gate.
The cash was recovered, deputies said.
