Dollar Falls Against Yen, Mark

The dollar dropped 2 yen against the Japanese currency and 2 pfennigs against the German mark Wednesday as investors anticipated improving economic conditions in both countries.

Traders also cleared their books and sold dollars ahead of the Easter weekend, which will mean closed markets Friday and Monday in Europe, and thin trading in the United States and Canada on Friday.

“Keeping that in mind, the market has been kind of thin,” leading to wider fluctuations as investors took profits at the dollar’s expense, said David Gilmore, a partner at Foreign Exchange Analytics.
