Gateway Moving Corporate Offices

From Staff

Gateway 2000 Inc., the mail-order computer seller that once brought a cow to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange to promote its prairie roots, is moving its executive suite to California to stay competitive.

But Gateway said Wednesday that the black and white cowhide spots on its shipping boxes won’t be put out to pasture in the move of its offices from South Dakota.

“We’re not losing our Midwestern roots, believe me,” Gateway spokesman Greg Lund said. “The spots are here.”

Gateway, which features grazing cattle in its commercials and a Holstein cow motif on everything from factories to shipping cartons, announced Tuesday that 20 high-level executives and other employees, will transfer to new offices in San Diego this summer.
