Churches Celebrate Easter With Special Events, Services

Holy Week concludes on Sunday with the celebration of Easter and many Valley churches are planning special worship services and other events to mark the special day.

Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye, will begin its Easter celebration with a traditional worship service at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The youth of the church will serve breakfast from 9:30 to 11 a.m. A free-will offering will be collected with suggested donations of $5 per adult, $3 per child age 12 and under, or $18 per family. The proceeds will be used to fund a retreat and other youth activities.

An Easter egg hunt for all children will take place at 10 a.m. The day will end with a contemporary worship service at 11 a.m.

Pasadena Park Church of the Nazarene, 8822 E. Upriver Drive, will host a family Easter celebration today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free party will include an Easter egg hunt for all ages and other family activities. Entertainment will be provided and lunch will be served.

Easter will be celebrated with an early service at 8 a.m. on Sunday, followed by breakfast at 8:30 a.m. The cost of the breakfast is $2 per person. An additional worship service will be at 10:50 a.m.

Pasadena Park will also present the cantata “Lord of Lords” at 6 p.m. on Sunday. The cantata tells the Easter story from the perspective of Paul the Apostle.

Opportunity Christian Church, 708 N. Pines, will serve a free Easter breakfast at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The worship service will be at 10:45 a.m., followed by an Easter egg hunt for children up to the sixth grade.

Sunday school classes are canceled this week.

Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2511 S. Pines, will celebrate Easter with a contemporary worship service at 8 a.m. on Sunday and a traditional service at 10:30 a.m.

There will be no Sunday school classes this week.

The youth of the church will serve a pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 10 a.m. The cost of the breakfast is $6 per adult, $3 for children age 12 and under, or $18 per family. The proceeds will benefit the youth program.

Veradale United Church of Christ, 611 N. Progress Road, will host an informal early worship service at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday. Breakfast will be served at 8:15 a.m. Donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of the meal.

Easter worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. The service will feature guest speaker Robert Porter, who is serving as a missionary in Sri Lanka. Porter teaches at Jaffna College in Sri Lanka and has been in the country since 1981.

There will be no Sunday school classes this week.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road, will hold Easter services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. A continental breakfast will be served at 9:45 a.m. A free-will offering will be collected to help cover the cost of the meal. Sunday school classes are canceled this week.

Peace Lutheran Church, 4124 N. Harvard Road, will host its Easter service at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. The church will also host a community Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. today. All children up to age 13 are welcome.

Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway, will celebrate Easter with worship services at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The youth of the church will serve a pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. A free-will offering will be collected and all proceeds will be used to fund various youth programs.

Christ Lutheran will also host an Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. on Sunday for all children in preschool through the sixth grade.

Opportunity Free Methodist Church will hold its Easter service at 10 a.m. at Central Valley High School, 821 S. Sullivan Road. The service will include a performance of “The Bridge,” a combination of songs and short dramas that tell the Easter story.

Greenacres Christian Fellowship, 215 N. Barker Road, will have an Easter service at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Pines Baptist Church, 714 S. Pines, will present the Easter drama “The Last 24 Hours of Christ” at 6 p.m. on Sunday. All are invited to attend and admission is free. Child care will be provided.

Easter services will be at 9:30 and 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene, 10814 E. Broadway, will host a showing of the “Jesus” film at 6 p.m. on Sunday. The film depicts the life of Christ utilizing dialogue from the Gospel of Luke.

Learn your place in God’s plan

Valley Assembly of God Church, 15618 E. Broadway, will offer a class called “Your Place in God’s Plan” starting next week. The eight-week class will be held each Wednesday from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at the church. The class is designed to help participants discover and define their passion, gifts, and personal style for serving God and other people.

Marriage workshop next weekend

Berean Bible Church, 10910 E. Boone, will present a workshop for couples called “Toward a Growing Marriage” next Friday and Saturday.

The workshop will feature Gary Chapman, a speaker and author of several books, including “Toward a Growing Marriage” and “The Five Love Languages.”

Topics to be covered will include “My mate won’t talk,” “He thinks he’s always right,” “My wife thinks money grows on trees,” and “How to share the things that bug you.”

The workshop will run from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The cost is $35 per person or $65 per couple. To register, call (800) 356-6639. The workshop is being sponsored by the Moody Bible Institute.
