Nc, Prep Keep Pace With Wins

North Central and Gonzaga Prep both won to remain tied for first in Greater Spokane League boys soccer with 3-0 records.

NC (6-2, 3-0) scored two goals within a minute early in the first half en route to defeating host Central Valley (4-5, 1-2) 4-1.

Bobby Johnson had two goals for the Indians and Dustin Allbery chipped in a goal and an assist.

At Hart Field, Gonzaga Prep’s Spencer Leonard had a goal and two assists as the Bullpups (8-2, 3-0) blanked Lewis and Clark (3-5, 0-3) 4-0. Prep outshot LC 10-2.

Jake Gillen had a goal and an assist in the first half as host Ferris (6-4, 2-1), which had 19 shots on goal, beat University (4-4, 1-2) 5-1.

Shadle Park’s Zach Kingsley had two first-half breakaway goals in the Highlanders’ (7-2, 2-1) 6-0 victory over host Mt. Spokane (2-8, 1-2).

Mead’s Todd Liptac dribbled the ball in from midfield for a goal in the first half as the Panthers (7-3, 2-1) defeated host Rogers (1-8, 0-3) 5-0.

College basketball

Gonzaga University forward Bakari Hendrix opened some eyes at an NBA predraft camp in Phoenix.

Hendrix, the scoring leader and most valuable player in the West Coast Conference, reportedly surprised officials with his shooting and was named MVP of the camp.

College golf

Eastern Washington’s Beth Carter and Idaho’s Marci Bernhardt share the lead with 1-over-par 73s going into today’s final round of the 36-hole Eagle Women’s Classic at MeadowWood.

Idaho has a four-shot lead over EWU, 301-305.

Eastern Washington is tied for fifth at 593, four shots back of leader San Diego, midway through the 72-hole Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz.

Gonzaga is last in the 18-school field at 659.

Darin Vaughan of EWU is tied for third at 1-under 143.

Women’s bowling

Peggy Larsen of Spokane moved into first place in Class C all-events of the Washington Women’s Bowling Association Championship Tournament in Spokane during the weekend of April 4-5 when five division leads changed hands.

Larsen’s all-events total is 1,716.

Other new leaders are Ardell Delgadillo of Ferndale, B singles, 628; Lynn Gooding, Olympia, D all-events, 1,574; Melanie Aggergaard, Tumwater, E all-events, 1,597; and R. Clement and Aggergaard, B doubles, 1,177.

There was no bowling during Easter weekend. Tournament action resumes this weekend at North Bowl and Silver Lanes.
